Some Call Them Speed Weddings!

Valentine’s Day is Wedding Day at the Davenport House Museum!

Get married in the museum’s beautiful courtyard garden and make this a Valentine’s Day to remember!

On Valentine’s Day, Sunday, February 14, 2010, Judge Harris Lewis, of the Chatham County Probate Court, will perform wedding ceremonies in the Davenport House Museum Garden. This special event begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m., with ceremonies every 10 minutes. Judge Lewis is donating his time and services in this unique and joyful way to the Davenport House for a suggested donation of $100 to the museum. Couples who bring a valid marriage license, which does not require a waiting period or a blood test in the state of Georgia, may call (912) 236-8097 to reserve their ceremony time. The ceremony can be conducted in English or Spanish. In the event of rain, ceremonies will be performed on the back porch of the museum, overlooking the Garden.

“For Valentine’s Day we are pleased to offer our garden to couples who do not want an elaborate ceremony but want a memorable setting,” offers Jamie Credle, director, Davenport House. In addition, Judge Harris Lewis feels that offering these garden weddings to couples who wish to marry in our historic city on Valentine’s Day will be a joyful way to honor the Davenports and benefit the museum.
